Music

It is funny how your music tastes changes over the years. I remember growing up and you could have never gotten me to listen to Jazz or anything that resembles it.

But now, I can’t get enough. In fact, when I am cooking and trying to get the boys to start settling down, I put on some classic Jazz. And as we move into our night time music selection, my go to lately has been Jim Brickman. There is just something about his smooth music, that helps settle the boys down. In fact, I can get the boys to sleep with his music within just a few songs. And yes, there have been a many times that I have fallen asleep on the floor listening to his music as well.

Here is the night time music cd that we’ve been listening to lately: Jim Brickman Piano Lullabies.

Just a little night time tip that might help your kids sleep a little easier.

Almost every night before the boys go to sleep, my wife will sing to them and the songs vary every night. Lately, she has been singing Old McDonald and encouraging the boys to say what animals and the sounds that the animals make. Usually, the boys just sit and smile and call out names when asked. Well, this past Friday while we were driving, Baby A out of the blue started singing Old McDonald. Well, it was his version of Old McDonald, but never the less, it was close.

My wife loves to sing, as did her mom, so to hear one of her children sit and sing Old McDonald definitely moved her to tears.  Over the course of the weekend, I was able to actually capture Baby A singing and I have to say, I’ve never smiled so much. It was so innocent and sweet and he was so proud as he sang.

Old McDonald had a farm, ewww ooooo ewwww ewwww ooo. Or that is at least how Baby A sings it.

As I have written about in the past, I am truly a Misplaced Texan living on the East Coast. So when I saw that the Deep In The Heart CD was coming out, I had to immediately order it. Not only does it have some of the greatest Texas artists performing, but it is just a solid cd for kids. And, do not forget, it goes to help a good cause, McLane Children’s Hospital Scott & White.

So far, the boys love the music and have really enjoyed listening to the music and I love that they are getting part of my life from Texas.

Today and I found out that after 10 years, I was able to complete the last signature that I needed for my Hootie and the Blowfish signed Cracked Rear View cd cover (I’ll post a photo later).  Growing up in NC and seeing Hootie and the Blowfish in Raleigh and Chapel Hill and then down in South Carolina in Charleston and Columbia, I had been able to meet the guys after shows, but I was never able to get lead guitarist Mark Bryan’s autograph. Fortunately for me, a close friend knows him and after some time, he was able to have Mark sign it for me at a benefit that they were attending.

I just hate that my boys will  not be able to experience seeing Hootie and The Blowfish live like I did. But here is a video that brings back a lot of memories.
